The pro-gay rights group American Unity PAC has decided its initial congressional targets to support this year, with plans to spend at least $500,000 in both Massachusetts and California, officials with the group said.
The initial expenditure by the Republican-leaning group will be on behalf of Republicans Richard Tisei in Massachusetts’s 6th District, and Carl DeMaio in California’s 52nd district, according to Jeff Cook-McCormac, a senior adviser to the group.

Other races in which the group plans to make independent expenditures are Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in Florida, Rep. Richard Hanna in New York, Sen. Susan Collins in Maine and for two GOP challengers: former Illinois Rep. Robert Dold, running in a North Shore district against Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider, and New Hampshire House candidate Dan Innis, who is facing former Rep. Frank Guinta in a primary before challenging Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

There are at least two other races the group is monitoring, Cook-McCormac said. The group was launched by Republican mega-donor Paul Singer in part to promote candidates who support gay marriage or who have opposed against restrictions to gay rights.
